And boy, this one is a doozy! If you liked Midnight in Paris, you will love Magic in the Moonlight. It has all the ingredients.…the Cote D’Azur playground of the rich in the glam jazz age, a talent-loaded cast, headed by Emma Stone and Colin Firth, and a fabulous tale written and directed by the master storyteller himself, Woody Allen.
Without spoiling it for you, the plot revolves around the world renowned Chinese magician Wei Ling Soo (Firth) (you guessed it…he’s not really Chinese, but rather an arrogant British cynic) who goes on a mission to the south of France to unmask the young, beautiful Sophie (Stone) who claims to be clairvoyant. Let the romp begin!
Over the past four decades, Allen has often used ghostly spirits, time travel, and magic in his exploration of life, death, and the meaning of it all. “There’s no question that there is an unseen world,” Allen wrote in a 1972 edition of the New Yorker. “The problem is, how far is it from midtown and how late is it open?”
Read about what it was like working with Woody Allen directly from Colin Firth and Emma Stone in this New York Times Magazine interview. And don’t miss Magic in the Moonlight when it opens at the Burns on Friday, August 1. Tickets are on sale now.
