JBFC Goes Unscripted!

On July 11, 2012 by Lori Z

If you thought Jacob Burns Film Center’s unique and exciting education classes ended with the school year, think again! Unscripted, one of JBFC’s Summer @ the Lab programs, allows students to spend their summer learning about the craft of documentary production and visual storytelling as they create an original short film. This year’s group is documenting the talented kids of the Westchester Table Tennis Center, located in Pleasantville, NY and owned by New York Times crossword editor Will Shortz.

High schoolers interviewed two teenagers with Olympic aspirations, former Table Tennis Olympic athlete Robert Roberts, and Will Shortz himself. As part of this hands-on class, JBFC campers learned to frame shots, adjust sound and lighting, and conduct interviews with film subjects.
